The following are some questions to ask when considering a web site.
What do you want your site for? Some possibilities for a web site are to share photos and information with family and friends. Small and large businesses can use a site for selling their products, advertising and promotions. Cities and community groups can promote their events. Even just to get your opinion out there and see what others may think about your ideas. There are a lot of reasons to have a web site.
Do I need a domain name?
The answer to this is yes. A domain name will point your visitors to your site. It is best to make it simple and easy to remember. The cost of a domain name is usually a yearly fee. An average yearly fee is around $20.00.
What about web hosting?
You will need to have your web site hosted. There are many web hosting companies out there. Wapsi Web Design is currently using domain hosting with gmtel.net.
What about site navigation?
Site navigation is very important. I am sure that you have visited sites and it has taken forever to find the information that you were looking for. That's not good. At Wapsi Web Design we strive to make navigation of our client sites easy and direct. We believe visiting a web site should be enjoyable, not a pain.
Should I have graphics and photos on my site?
Graphics and photos can really dress up a web site. That being said, you will want to make sure that the graphics and photos that you use are related to your site and not just a pretty picture that you like. Also, try and use the smallest size that you can without distorting the image. This will save room on your hosting plan. It will also allow your site to load faster. Keep in mind there are people with dial-up connections that do not load very fast. Animation also is nice to use, but it also takes some time to load.
What about having a form on my site?
A form is a great idea. A form can be used as a guest book to collect information on your visitors. It can be used to sell products. There are many uses for forms.
Can I use pdf or other file types on my site?
Yes, you can. Pdf and other file types can be used. They do, however, require that your visitor have the correct software loaded on their computer in order to view them. It is better to convert these files to html so as everyone can see your information. Short of doing this a link to the site for download of the proper software should be included.
